Coalition Soldiers Work To Install Laptops And Desktops
Forward Operating Base Kalsu- The chaos and confusion that occurred after the fall of Saddam Hussein is promising to continue to lessen, with the added positives from upgrading the technology that the courts have available.
Members of the 3rd Infantry, 4th BCT, Judge Advocate Section assisted in bringing brand new desktop and laptop computers to the courthouse and court officers in Karbala, Najaf, Babil, and Qadisiyah Provinces. Each of these districts received new computers from the soldier group during the week of March 18th.
The computer distribution is a continued effort that was started earlier by the Multi National Division Rule of Law team.
Various sessions to help the Judges and their legal teams learn how to use the computers are also being given, and to a reasonable level of success. “We are trying to give them a basic system of procedures and computer networks that will allow them to look for and access legal precedents for their legal system,†said Major Thomas Hurley, 4th BCT Judge Advocate General.

The efforts at bringing the Iraqi Courts into the Computer age has been much needed for a long time. Before decisions were written down, and the whole process was very labor intensive. Now there is a system to register decisions, and to establish precedents, which is how legal matters are helped to be determined.
“Now that we have computers it will be a lot easier,†said Ahmed, a former Iraqi Lawyer who now serves as a judge in the Iraqi Courts.
