Mosul Citizens Give Support To Coalition

Mosul Citizens Give Support To CoalitionSoldiers Treated To Food And Fellowship By Iraqi Citizens

Local citizens in the area of Mosul observed the Islamic Mawlid holiday recently, and in so doing they showed a lot of hospitality and good will toward coalition soldiers.

Mawlid is the celebration that recognizes the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, and involves practicing giving and charity as part of the celebration. Citizens took to the street in the Mosul area, and handed out candy to the soldiers instead of the reverse.

“It was really nice, normally we give out food and candy to the citizens and try to make friends, but we were pleased to see citizens smiling and giving us food, drink and candy,” said 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Glossen.

“We were thrilled to see kids seeking us out and handing us little packages of food and candy,” said Lt. Glossen.

Muslims celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad all over the world, but it was a change to see the goodwill and smiles on the part of citizens in the Mosul area. Even with the increased security successes, it was a wonderful change to see the populace pleased to see soldiers while they are on their patrols in the area.

“We prepare food and drink and share it with our friend, our family, and with visitors, it is part of the celebration that we practice as Muslims,” said Ibrahim Shahd. Mr. Shahd is a muslim and a Coalition forces interpreter.
