SWAT Team Joins Coalition In Raid

SWAT Team Joins Coalition In RaidLarge Cache Of Weapons Discovered And One Suspect Arrested

Hillah, Iraq- The training that has been given to Iraqi National Army and Police members by the Coalition Soldiers has began to bear fruit.

The Iraqi Hillah Police Post SWAT team mounted its first joint successful raid with Coalition Troops on March 22nd. A large cache of explosives, ammunition and weapons were discovered, and the raid is being pointed to by Coalition troops as evidence that the Iraqi Police are becoming a lot more proficient and expert at such raids.

The weapons that were discovered included hundreds of mortar rounds, dozens of anti personnel mines, hundreds of RPG rounds, various guns and hand grenade items, including over 200 pounds of explosives and 3 RPG launchers.

The Patrol was a joint effort by Coalition soldiers and several Hillah SWAT vehicles and soldiers. The joint forces worked together to search the buildings in the industrial area, before stumbling on the large stash of weapons.

The joint patrol was launched as a trial; there have been a renewed number of attacks in recent weeks including some particularly fierce attacks on Iraqi Security Forces in the area.

The area has been a hotbed of attacks since early 2004, but recently there was a period of quiet, as has been experienced across Iraq in general. The training of the Hillah Special Weapons and Tactics team has been as a result of the past fighting, and it is cautiously being seen as a great success so far. The responses of the SWAT team so far have been excellent, and a credit to their forces and to their Coalition forces trainers.
