10th Calvary Help Open Ameriyah School

10th Calvary Help Open Ameriyah SchoolSons Of Iraq Work With Coalition To Repair And Restore School

The parade of renovated and reopened schools in the Baghdad region continue, with the reopening of a school in Ameriyah on March 16th.

The school had been previously damaged in severe fighting.

Ameriyah was the site of near constant war and battles less than a year ago. Since that time the security situation has stabilized, and the school was targeted for renovation. Members of the Sons of Iraq began to work with soldiers and troops from different Coalition units to fix and repair the school a number of months ago.

The school itself was open during the renovation, but the air and excitement surrounding the school during its reopening was truly a sight to see. Children sang and danced to the beat of a drum, and all wore their very best school uniforms or clothing as the reopening was celebrated by all.

Some of the worst battle damage had been previously suffered by the Ameriyah School. “It was the scene of some of the worst fighting in the area,” said Major Joel Stephenson. Major Stephenson is the Executive Officer for 10th Cavalry, 4th Squadron.

The peace was finally established through the efforts of the Sons of Iraq, the Coalition, and the Iraqi Security Forces, all working together to rid the area of insurgents and insurgent activity.
