15th Infantry Works With Rebuilding Effort

15th Infantry Works With Rebuilding EffortSons Of Iraq Leaders Work With Coalition Leaders

As the security situation in Iraq continues to improve, the leaders of local villages and Sons of Iraq groups met with Coalition Officials to help work out issues with rebuilding.

Members of the Sons Of Iraq from Tuwaitha met with Army Lieutenant Colonel John Kolasheski, 15th Infantry, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Squadron Commander in a small village east of Baghdad on March 21st.

They met to discuss ways of rebuilding much of the neighborhood that was destroyed during some of the heavy fighting that was present over the last two years. Several of the local buildings have been destroyed, and others need to be extensively rebuilt.

“We found the area very rough when we first got here,” said Colonel Kolasheski. “There had been several people that had been killed by Al Qaeda, and the local population had a great deal of fear,” said Colonel Kolasheski.

As the Sons of Iraq began to run security checkpoints, slowly the situation has changed. Now security is much better, and the people do not live in fear as they did before.

“We are joining with the Sons of Iraq to look forward, never look back,” said Colonel Kolasheski. As the leaders met, local projects for possible rebuilding were discussed, including a local water pump station. The issue of water purification was also discussed at length.

“Progress on different projects take time, but as we continue to work together the changes will continue,” said Colonel Kolasheski.
