Marine Corps Improve Life In HabbaniyahCivil Affairs Unit Assists Local Quality Issues Much of the efforts by Coalition forces in and around Habbaniyah in recent weeks have been aimed at assisting with infrastructure and quality of life. The Civil Affairs Group is helping to find ways that local leaders can be given support and aid. RCT 1, 11th Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Civil Affairs Group has not been in Iraq very long but they already are finding different ways to assist the local rebuilding efforts. They met with the Mayor of Habbaniyah to talk about helping with the water treatment facility. The water quality in the Coolie Camp area was known to be poor, so the Marine Corps Civil Affair Unit began to ask questions how they could help. They visited three different water treatment facilities and took note of what issues were being addressed, and what things still needed to be accomplished. With this information they can report back to Coalition leaders and find out what resources are available to help. “One option that may be open to use is putting Solar power water treatment into effect, that might be one way to help the situation,” said 2nd Lieutenant Matt Ashton. Lieutenant Ashton is the officer in Charge of the Civil Affairs Unit. Are you interested in an exciting career in the Military? See if you qualify. Click Here Now! As they began to move about the Habbaniyah area they began to see several possible projects that need help. Helping provide reliable electric power, paving roads that are in rough shape, and medical clinics were all issues that the Civil Affairs Unit identified in addition to water purification.
