Mission In Iraq Continues To Improve And Gain Ground
Washington, D.C.- After completing a recent tour in Iraq, a Senior Army Colonel described the situation in Iraq as “continuing to improve,†to members of the media on Thursday.
Colonel Michael Fuller, Chief of Staff for the Multinational Security Transition Command in Iraq met with members of the press and media and related the ongoing situation in Iraq. The situation with the local forces and Iraqi Security and National Army is growing in a positive direction, and Colonel Fuller was not shy in his description.
“We are working well with the Iraq Interior and Defense Ministries, and they are now able to sustain, generate, and replenish much of their own activities,†said Colonel Fuller.
“We have worked jointly to build the ability of these two Iraq Ministries to be more self sufficient and able to handle operations on their own, and it’s working,†stated Colonel Fuller.
Two divisions of Iraqi National Army soldiers were moved to Basra recently, and the entire move, effort and operation was planned, set up and carried out by Iraqi Defense Ministry officials.

“The surge has give us in the Army more of a chance to train and recruit quality members of the Iraqi Army and security forces,†said Colonel Fuller.
Due to efforts by the Coalition, nearly 124,000 thousand new members of the Iraqi National Police, Iraqi Army and other security forces have been added. This has resulted in new policemen, airmen, sailors, and soldiers.
“We have also been honored and privileged to see the rise of citizens, such at the Sons of Iraq groups,†said Colonel Fuller.
“Much of the current success is because common Iraqi citizens have began to care, and are participating in the Sons of Iraq and other groups in record numbers,†said Fuller.
