Aviation Squadron VMFA 115 Keep Aircraft flying
Al Asad, Iraq- There are constant re-supply needs in order to keep the F/A 18 Hornet fighters flying that are active in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Fighter Aircraft from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, Silver Eagles, have to be ready at any time to fly missions that they are assigned in close air and ground support. They are a crucial link in delivering ordnance down on enemy positions, and they have proven invaluable to the battle in Iraq.
One of the most important things that keep them in the air, and flying is the Ordnance Marines that keep their aircraft in top shape, and constantly stocked with weapons. The Marines that make up the Marine Corps Aviation Squadrons 115 and Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 are squared away, and do an impeccable job of keeping their aircraft supplied and ready to go.
“Its our job to support the Squadrons F/A 18’s, the pilots, and their needs,†stated Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Timothy Dorril. Sgt. Dorril is a aviation systems ordnance technician with the squadron.

“We provide all the equipment, and re-supply the weapons and ordnance as required to make sure that all the weapons they are supposed to have are available, and ready to go at a moments notice,†said Sergeant Dorril. “We repair, inspect, maintain and generally make sure the gun systems, bombs, bomb racks, and missiles are all set and ready to go,†said Dorril.
Marine Corps Ordnance technicians work around the clock to make sure that weapons are ready and loaded. As Marine Hornet F/A 18 fighters come to rest after a mission, the Marine Ordnance technicians descend upon them like bees on honey, setting up and installing fresh weapons on the aircraft.
