Troops From 2nd Iraqi Army Join In Security Raid
Baghdad- In a series of raids, members of Al Qaeda believed to be operating in the Makhiat village were pursued by Special Forces members.
Four insurgents were caught and arrested, and prepared for interrogation. The acts that the four are suspected of include murder, torture, kidnapping and other mistreatment of innocent Iraqi civilians in the Makhiat region.
Five other suspects were also arrested, but their involvement is not known.
Increasingly Iraqi National Army members have been performing raids on their own, with the role for coalition troops headed for supervision and occasional intervention. But for the most part, Iraqi Army soldiers are able to perform on a greater level of independence than they have been previously.
These members of Al Qaeda have been sought for several weeks, when a citizen tipster informed a U.S. Special Forces scout that the insurgents were in fact in the area. The reaction was swift, as was the raid down on their position. Iraqi soldiers from the 2nd Iraq Army division provided security and mop up for the operation.

This was unusual in that of late the raids have been performed by the Iraqi Army itself, but because of the urgency of the situation and the timing, the Special Forces were in the right place at the right time, and swarmed down to make the arrests and apprehensions.
After the series of arrests, the patrol of the area was resumed with Iraqi National Army troops retaking the lead, with U.S. Special forces assuming the overwatch role once again.
