Family Support Services Military Benefits

Family Support Services Military BenefitsBeing in the military is a great way to serve your country, and if you have a family there is a lot of positive services available for support. Services that are offered on base or at military facilities are free, and available for any enlisted military Servicemembers. Because all services are DoD supported, it doesn’t matter if you are in the Army and live near a Marine base; services that are available for one military service are available for any active duty Servicemember within their service area.

In addition, supportive services are available through telephone, email or the Internet, and can be arranged in advance. Services can be accessed by Reserve members who are being mobilized, services that might not seem much of an advantage suddenly come into stark positive focus when a loved one is mobilized for active duty in the Reserves.

When a Reservist receives their orders, the Command normally will activate a unit referred to as the Family Assistance Center. This is a special unit that is designed to give current information about the Servicemember, and also to provide Servicemember support to families beginning immediately, and lasting throughout the Reservists tour of duty. Services in childcare, counseling, medical benefits, as well as other support services are made available to the families to cut through the red tape. Different types of services are available to the Servicemember and families. Financial Counseling: Services are available to help plan deployment, and to deal with the financial stress and strain of deployment. State, Federal, and Military support services all provide different types of counseling. Family Special Needs: Support for family members with special needs is supported by the Family assistance Center.

It is important for the Servicemember to have their all family members including dependants registered with the Family Assistance Center, in order to receive all the benefits they qualify for. The most important thing to receiving family support benefits is to learn all you can before deployment, and to have all members registered with the Family Support Center. Knowledge is power, there are often services that a Servicemember family qualifies for but often families do not know they are qualified. Family Support Centers often can provide referrals to families to help them find services to meet their needs that might otherwise be unavailable if families are not registered with them.
