Residents In Maderiyah Allowed To Return Home
Acting with the help of the Sons of Iraq and local Iraqi Security Forces, Soldiers from several different Coalition Units worked to clear the northbound roads from the Joint Security Site W-1 this last week.
Soldiers and Troops from 3rd Infantry, 2nd BCT, 9th Field Artillery, 1st Battalion, Battery B worked for several hours as part of a unified clearance team to dispose of IED devices and clear a route for villagers of Kutimiyah and Maderiyah. After the roadway was cleared of all explosives and hazards, the route was cleared to allow villagers to begin to return to their homes.
When Coalition Soldiers first arrived on scene the roadway was cluttered with many IED and other devices, to the extent it was not possible to travel on it at all. In fact, there was a bridge between the two villages that had to be destroyed as it was allowing midnight and nighttime raids on joint forces by Al Qaeda.
Previously there had been several attempts at clearing the road, but none had been successful.

Although the final effort to clear the roadway was successful, more work is needed, as there are other explosives that are believed to be hidden in the community. There is also additional work needed to continue the roadway to points beyond the two villages.
As security in the area continues to improve the Coalition soldiers in the area remain on task and committed to working with local Iraqi security forces to keep the roadway safe and free from any further explosives or Al Qaeda bombs.
