76th Field Artillery Provides Medical HelpBasic Primary Care Clinic Held By Coalition Unit The village of Abu Amer is a rather small village in the Wasit region that received a visit from a coalition unit March 28th. After making sure that the area was secure and safe, the 3rd Infantry, 4th BCT,76th Field Artillery came over the loudspeaker announcing to the small village that they were there to help by holding a health clinic to assist residents. After the news of the Medical clinic operation was announced, residents began to line up, pouring in from the surrounding streets. Several Army Nurses and two surgeons worked to do an initial assessment and medical history, and then the patients were sorted according to the severity of treatment needed. All of the residents that were seen were grateful for the assistance. Coalition soldiers are continuing to build relationships and to make differences in the everyday lives of Iraqi villagers. In all over 212 patients were seen, with situations from the mild to the severe. Problems treated ranged from joint pain to several gastrointestinal disorders. Click here for more Information. “We didn’t have necessarily all the medicines that we needed, but we managed to help hundreds of patients despite our shortcomings,” said one of the Army Doctors who held the clinic. Most of the medications that were used were over the counter type non-prescription drugs. Cold Medications, multivitamins, anti biotic and topical medications were mostly what was used for the impromptu health clinic. Every patient that was seen received an evaluation, treatment if necessary, and some form of humanitarian encouragement or assistance, soccer balls, food, beanie babies, candy, and other various items all donated by coalition soldiers.
