Educational Funding Tips And TricksIf you are interested in obtaining a college education, some of the best funding sources in the world are available through the military. Not only does each of the five services all offer some version of the TA tuition assistance program for active duty Servicemembers, but also each of the services has programs and elements that can benefit you potentially as a future college student. There are a lot of things that can aid you as you work toward finding the college career path best for you. Here are some things to remember: Start Early- If you are in your senior year, you should go ahead and file your federal financial aid form. After January 1st your senior year, you should immediately file for financial aid. Some types of aid are awarded on the first come first serve basis, and while you can’t file before January 1st, you can file literally New years day. The earlier you file the more you may be eligible for. You can file up to June of the year that you want to attend in the fall.

Look everywhere- The advent of the Internet has given the potential college student a huge advantage, you can do a search to find out the different types of funding and programs that you are eligible for. There are scholarships of every type and shape, as well as a host of different types of funding. Sometimes there may be a scholarship through a place of employment that your parents may have, or your school you graduated from, or the school you want to attend may have scholarship programs that you want to check out. Many times there is unclaimed financial aid funds that go un awarded each year because people do not apply for them. Check into state and local sources of financial aid, as well as private scholarships and grants. All types of financial aid work at most colleges and universities, so its good to find out what is available.

Consider the military- While it may be an old adage, the military does have some of the best funding programs on the planet, if you truly wish to attend college and have the government pay for it. In addition to the normal scholarship route, there is the Montgomery GI bill, and a number of ROTC and military service academy opportunities that you should investigate.
