Army Music Band Member Careers

Army Music Band Member CareersEach of the Armed Forces has their own military band members. They are responsible for playing music and performing at ceremonies, events and representing their service with musical performances throughout the world. There are a variety of sizes and types of military Bands, but the most common military band is the Army Special Band Member Corps. Music plays a rich historical tradition in the military. Army band members are involved in a variety of bands playing everything from ceremonial martial style music to small ensembles and jazz bands. Army bands exist in every size imaginable from a trio, to a small group, to a large marching band or orchestral unit.

The Army special band member is an important part of the Army music team, they serve and perform as part of the U.S. Army field band, the U.S. Army Military Academy Band, the 3rd Infantry Old Guard Drum and Fife Corps, or one of the many other designated Army Bands.

Working as an Army Bandmember you will have a variety of duties, some of which may be to rehearse and learn new music when not actually performing, leading in or playing in combos, jazz groups, orchestras, or marching band units, playing and performing all different styles of music, and playing in street parades, festivals, ceremonies, dances, concerts, and other types of celebrations as directed.

You will have a variety of other duties also as a Army Special Band Member, you may be required to transposed music by sight for other instruments as defined, performing regular maintenance and organizational care of instruments and band equipment, acting as a training, operations, supply or administrative sergeant as directed, and participating in security duties and base defensive actions when required by increased combat intensity.

To become an Army bandmember you have to pass one or more auditions. After Basic training, if you have passed an audition then you will proceed to the Army band unit that you will be assigned to. You are required to be an accomplished musician, but if you pass the auditions you can sometimes join if still progressing as a musician.

Helpful attributes include a love of music, and interest in music theory, being able to play6 more than one instrument, an ability to sight read music, and being able to be poised when playing or performing before an audience or in public.
