Brick Factory Revived With Vet Clinic Operation
With the increased security of the Narhwan region secured the Iraqi and Coalition joint forces have began to turn to issues of rebuilding. The location of a former Brick Factory complex has been revived, with the usage of local animals. Veterinarians from Coalition forces treated 250 donkeys from the community. Vets from 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry treated the animals to make sure they were healthy.
The Donkeys will provide the muscle needed for brick factory operations. Because they lack motorized vehicles at the Narhwan Factory Brick complex, the donkeys will be used to haul bricks and support production.

Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Baker is an economist serving with the 3rd Infantry Division, and he realized that with the usage of donkeys for muscle that the Brick Factory would be ready for full operations. Locally the heavy fuel oil availability has led to the decision to restart the kilns and now that the donkeys are an option things look promising.
“This Narhwan clinic is a very unique situation, this was the case where we could rescue donkeys that were mistreated and lead them into service in a healthy operation,†said Lt. Colonel Baker. “Some of the donkeys were in excellent condition, but the animals will be well cared for and treated well,†said Baker.
Local employment rose from 3,500 people to 15,000 people in anticipation of the donkeys use at the factory. The donkeys are used to haul mud and straw, and then to haul the completed products.
