Coalition Lawyer Works To Support Law Efforts
With all of the changes involved in Coalition and Joint Forces operations, the need for trained Iraqi Judges has become a vital and pressing need. The judges who work in the justice arena in Iraq are all normally college graduates, but some of the judges lack specific legal training in areas that they are required to handle. Colonel Doug House is a Coalition military legal expert, and an attorney who is attached to the pRT 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team. Colonel House met with three judges recently in Jisr Diyala to assess their needs and find out precisely where they are at in legal terms.
Iraqi Judge Razaq Jabbar Alwan is the Qada Chief Investigative Judge, and he personally welcomes Colonel House and his mission. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to meet Colonel House, it is because of people such as you that my country has been helped,†said Judge Alwan.

The judicial expert that assigns personnel for the 3rd HBCT decided House was the best suited to work with Iraqi Justices to help them in their return to the Salman Pak courthouse. “Colonel House was well received by the judges,†said Specialist Ryan Burkholder, who accompanied House on his mission.
Spc Burkholder is a Calvary scout and was a practicing attorney in the United States. Despite being a lower enlisted soldier he has been used as a rule of law judge for the brigade, and was able to comment on how things went with Colonel House.
