Iraq Seeks To Establish Sovereignty

Iraq Seeks To Establish SovereigntyGoal Is To One Day Be Independent And Able To Stand Independently

The government of Iraq is working hard, challenging their own limits to work toward true independence. Because of the presence and support of the United States, and other Coalition support Iraq has been able to focus on training and preparation.

During the reign of Saddam Hussein, there were vast amounts of fear. If you merely uttered the wrong statement, or made a joke at the wrong time to the wrong person, you could literally be snatched up, tortured, and slain by members of Saddam’s regime.

Since the arrival of coalition forces and military support, there have been a lot of changes. At first forces were met with suspicion, and distrust. But slowly the military forces and rebuilding team members of the Coalition have won over the population, and as the trust increases so does the hard work to support Coalition efforts in Iraq.

“The people and the government of Iraq desire to be independent and have their own National Sovereignty even more than we wish it for them,” remarked General Petraeus. General Petraeus is commanding general for MNF Iraq Forces, and was speaking to the House Armed Services Committee in Washington DC on Friday.

The leaders of the Iraqi Government are sensing the urgency, so they are working doubly hard to achieve the benchmarks and goals that the coalition and Iraqi leaders agreed to last year.
