Positive Security Encourages CoalitionContinued Vigilance Necessary To Sustain Peace And Safety When the troop surge was first proposed a year ago there were many that said it would never work, that the people and the situation in Iraq would not welcome additional troops and that the fragile situation would bust wide open, and get considerably worse. Well the naysayers were wrong. Not only has the troop surge been a rousing success, but the citizens of Iraq have began to rise up and take responsibility for their own nation, slowly taking on the amount of participation necessary to be independent and self sufficient. Iraq is a country that is still marked by violence, but the amount of violence is lessening, and the situation gets better and better each day. MNF- Iraq Commanding General David H. Petraeus spoke briefly on the positive gains made by the surge, and the future of U.S. Forces in Iraq. “We do see progress in a big way in the security arena,” said General Petraeus. General Petraeus addressed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in Washington, D.C. last Tuesday. Are you interested in an exciting career in the Military? See if you qualify. Click Here Now! During his question and answer period with the Senate Committee General Petraeus spoke about his intent to evaluate and take stock for 45 days following the redeployment of the surge troops. As the troops that were rushed to the Iraqi theater of operations are slowly shifted and redeployed elsewhere, Petraeus spoke on the need to act with quiet deliberation and to not be hasty in making decisions about withdrawing Coalition Troops.
