Inspection Of DAG Village Plant Goes Well
Members of the 3rd Platoon, Able Company went on an inspection trip with Dag Village. The reconnaissance effort was centered on learning what the local villages need, as reconstruction efforts continue, many of the local villagers have needs that have not been previously been identified.
Dag Village has a hydroelectric dam that has been operating below its level of capability. Village elders met with members of the 503rd senior command staff, and visited for nearly two hours. Some of the members of 3rd platoon discussed at length needs of the villagers and other community projects, and how coalition soldiers could help reach some of these goals.
Hydroelectric power is beneficial, and micro electric power can be potentially realized from many of the small mountain streams in the region. The ability of such hydroelectric micro projects varies from 10 to 40 kilowatts.
Most of the average Afghanistan homes have two light bulbs and a television, with perhaps one other device. With this amount of power, such a small micro hydro generating device could potentially generate enough power for hundreds of Afghanistan citizens.

After the meeting, villagers and members of the Coalition both felt that the time had been productive for all involved. New local projects were listed and the Coalition spoke regarding the types of assistance that they could provide for the village elders. After meeting with the elders, the coalition pledged assistance for several of the projects in the next several months.
