Paktika Province Construction Site Successful
The security in Afghanistan has improved to the point where much of the effort has been directed in recent months to helping the local citizens rebuild and reconstruct much of their villages and their homes.
A series of labor workshops featuring Provincial reconstruction teams was held in January and February. Teams of skilled construction workers held four separate workshops in Paktika Province, two workshops in Paktika itself, one at Orgun-E and one workshop was held in Sharana. Each of the workshops featured skilled labor construction demonstration along with hands on opportunities to practice construction techniques.
Each of the workshops lasted 7 days, and topics covered included tool basics, basic carpentry, job and workplace safety, and other construction techniques. At the end of the training the students got to keep the tools that used in the workshop, each student wound up with a basic set of tools that they now owned outright.

This is the second set of workshops held in the region this year, the first workshop was held in Jalalabad. So far there have been over 50 Afghans who have been trained, and many of these students are now working in the construction field.
Afghans have benefited from this training workshop and will continue to gain valuable and skilled trainees from people who graduate from this program. The meals, tools, materials and supplies for this program were provided by the U.S. Emergency response program funding programs.
