U.S. Army Trains Iraqi Border Personnel

Equipment And Training Provided For Automated Passport Facility

If you desire to enter Iraq through the Um Qsar Port, soon you will pass through a facility that was set up and installed by the United States Army. The Army has provided sophisticated electronic passport scanning devices, which will assist in the entrance procedures heading into Iraq.

Army technicians in the use of the new equipment are now training Iraq Border Patrol officers. It features 16 new stations to help with identification of different people that wish to enter the sovereign state of Iraq. The current system in use is not up to the task; it involves visually inspecting each and every passport and comparing it with photos and lists.

Once the Iraqi Border Patrol Police force is trained in the use and operations, then the system will be able to begin full operations. After the initial system aids in inspecting a persons individual passport, the person will then be able to speak to the Identity and Traveling Directorate for permission to enter Iraq.

This is a new system, and in its experimental stage. It is hoped that the new system will speed entrance into Iraq, and make it easier for the Border patrol to focus on other issues, such as making sure that people who enter the nation are legitimate and not terrorists or insurgents.
