Coalition El Salvador Soldiers Inspect Al Kut Factory
Members of the coalition from El Salvador went on an inspection tour of the water facility found at Al Kut.
Lieutenant Colonel Mario E. Murcia went with his soldiers to look at the Al Kut Water Company this last week. Colonel Murcia is the commander and an engineer with the El Salvador Cuscatlan Battalion. The Battalion Military Civil Cooperation team toured the Al Kut Water Company to look at the maintenance and to assess its capacity.
The residents around Al Kut all receive the benefits of the water factory. Nearly 300,000 people in the region are supplied with water from the facility. “We supply nearly all the local residents,†said Diaa Mohammed Obed, supervisor of the Al Kut Water plant.
Five different pumps transport water from the Tigris River to the water plant for treatment.
Other pumps then carry the water for distribution around the city and region of Al Kut.

The water company also bottles water and transports the bottled water to villages and towns around Al Kut. The main problem found with the water company is finding spare parts for the machines and equipment when it breaks down. The plant works at nearly 90 percent capacity, but it still is an area that needs support and assistance.
The battalion from Cuscatlan has visited the region on previous deployments, and worked to renovate a clinic and school in the Al Kut village.
