The Army Radar Repair technician is an important member of the maintenance and communications repair team. Army Radar Repair personnel are responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing and operating Radar and communications systems found in Army installations and Army facilities worldwide. The job responsibilities that are involved in being an Army Radar repair person include using and testing radar systems and subsystems using electronic test equipment, installing transmitters, receivers and other radar components, keeping detailed equipment and radar logs, maintaining and operating missile tracking, air defense, and air traffic control systems as well as troubleshooting and repairing them on occasion.
Job training for an Army Radar repair technician includes attending boot camp for 9 weeks. After you are through with Basic Combat training you will attend 45 weeks of individual advanced training for Radar Operator and Repair school. You will attend training in two phases, phase one will involve classroom training in concepts and skills, and phase two will be training involved in simulated combat and battlefield repair situations, where you will put into practice the training which you received. At Radar repair school you will learn about electronic principals and concepts, the use and ability of various electronic test equipment, how to replace and repair subsystems of radar equipment, inspection and test techniques, and how to trouble shoot advanced communications and radar equipment.

If you have an interest in Radar equipment or operations, and if you have abilities in radio, communications or electronics repair, if you are good with physics and math and have an interest overall in working with electronic gear, then this may be a ideal job for you. Advanced level Radar repairers work to train and supervise junior enlisted Radar specialists. Civilian jobs working with radios, electronic repair and other private firm electronics type jobs are available after your career in the Army is over.
