Graphics Multimedia Illustrator Specialist

One of the largest publishing organizations in the world is the Armed Forces of the United States. The military makes training manuals, newspapers, graphics, charts, posters, advertisements, reports and promotional materials on a regular and repeated basis. The use of artwork and graphics in these materials as well as in signs and displays, and in multimedia video television and motion picture use have exploded in recent decades. As a member of the Army Multimedia Graphics Illustrator specialty, you will work on artwork graphics and unique materials comprising visual displays and other drawings. Illustrators and Graphic artists serving in the military are responsible for operating, planning and supervising the production of different documents, displays, and visual presentations. The type of responsibilities and job tasks that you may be involved in can entail; producing new computer aided graphics, drawing and illustrating posters, graphs, signs, charts, layouts and map overlays for both non combat and combat Army usage, drawing charts and graphs to symbolize numbers, budgets, soldiers, and other types of pictorial representation, and working with instructors to help formulate different training artwork and illustration courses. You will work in helping create filmstrips, animation and cartoons representing Army subjects and topics for films, help operate and perform maintenance of illustration and assigned equipment, brainstorm and develop ideas for backdrops, props and other materials for film sets, work closely with producers to create different material for use in multimedia and television productions on Army topics, and perform maintenance and upkeep on different equipment and vehicles that are assigned for your use and support. You will start your Army career in the enlisted ranks with 9 weeks of Basic Combat Training. After that you will progress to individual advanced training, for 13 weeks. This advanced training will be in simulated field conditions, on the job training, and in the classroom instruction. You will work with the use of color, and color and coloration theory, be instructed in television graphics and illustration techniques for multimedia and video, and work in drawing, lettering, graphics and layout techniques. If you are expressive and enjoy drawing and sketching, if you are able to work under a deadline, and if you enjoy expressing yourself using visual illustration means this may be a good job specialty for you to consider. Army trained graphic artists and illustrators are in high demand in the civilian field for jobs in the private sector with print ships, web design firms, and advertising agencies to name a few.
