Small Boat Army Engineer Careers

Many people think that the Army operates only on land, but that is a misnomer. The United States Army maintains and operates its own watercraft that work to transport and perform the various missions of the Army that fall under their purvey. The Army Watercraft and small vessel operations is a well trained unit of enlisted and commissioned soldiers that work in harbors, and coastal operations serving the Army mission and maintaining basic mission readiness at all times.

Army enlisted watercraft engineer’s work to pilot, navigate and maintain watercraft that work in water operations around the world. The members of the Army Watercraft corps have unique opportunities to work with small and large tugboats, as well as a number of unique specialized watercraft. The skills and techniques used to operate these types of watercraft are very highly technical, and require specialized training and teaching to become proficient in them. Craft such as high-speed hovercraft, jet boats, as well as more pedestrian and normal small boats are all present in the Army Watercraft fleet.

Its up to the members of the Army Small Boat and Watercraft corps to use and maintain these types of watercraft toward Army missions assigned. Watercraft enlisted careers are a varied and active specialty, and their responsibilities can involve engine room watch standing while the watercraft is underway, daily systems checks on all instrument and gauge systems, and maintenance and repair of all diesel and gasoline engines.

Job Training for the position of Army Watercraft and small boat engineer careers begins with Basic Combat Training for nine weeks to prepare you for your enlisted career working in the active duty Army. After your Basic Training of 9 weeks, you will progress to individual advanced training for 10 weeks. You will work in a variety of marine and small boat operations, both in simulated field conditions and in the classroom. You will be instructed in engine and internal combustion gas and diesel engine theory, the repair and service of Fuel injection systems, and how to maintain and upkeep electrical and electronic machinery systems.

If you have any skills or experience in industrial arts or mechanics, or if you have worked as a repairperson in fixing machinery and engines then you may be very well suited for this job position.
