Houston Opens Office of Veteran’s Affairs

Houston Opens Office of Veteran’s Affairs The office, which accommodates the needs of the 200,000 veterans in the city, has spent well over $700 million in assistance in the past few fiscal years. This type of assistance is well needed, and is greatly appreciated by all those that are affected with its help. There has been a great need for the city to open up an Office of Veteran’s Affairs, and now, it has finally done so. The office, which is located near downtown, will be able to aid those veterans that are looking for employment, medical coverage, or any other form of immediate assistance. For those that are looking to return to school, there are also counselors and hired professionals that will assist the veterans with their continuing education choices. Currently, however, there is only a budget of $100,000, and only one employee. There is an expected exponential growth for the veteran’s affairs office, however, that should be substantial to those that are in need. Unfortunately, there are many veterans in the area that are unaware of the office and its services in the area, as Houston has been without Veteran’s Affairs office until now. It is expected to be a beneficial outreach center for those that are in need. This year, there will be a Veteran’s Day parade on Sunday, November 11 in Harris County, which the mayor asks those in the community to attend.
