Computer Analyst Image Specialists

The modern Army of today is one that is based on technology. Being able to interpret and gauge the information and images that are gathered is one of the key jobs in the information age. Working in the Army as an analyst with computer and photographic images is an important part of keeping the needed flow of information going. Image Analysts work with human observations, aerial photos and electronic and computer images to study and gather all the needed information about a combat or battle scene. Using this information the Image Analyst helps devise tactics and defense plans to combat and battlefield use.

In the Army the Computer Image Analyst is the person that is responsible primarily for analyzing and supervising the ground and aerial permanent record images, and using the information gained from electronic and photographic means. Some of the responsibilities that you may be involved in include; obtaining intelligence by analyzing and studying products and images, determining where the enemy weapons, soldiers and equipment is, looking at photographs of missile, base and foreign ship emplacements, recommending the use and planning the location of imaging sensor for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, and using optical, electronic and mechanical means to get information from images and other data.

Working in the Army as a Computer Image Analyst you will work to determine enemy target coordinates for the location and accurate placement of equipment and troops, you will use machinery and equipment to help identify placement of enemy troops and to provide real time information to commanders and leaders in the combat field, you will be involved in analysis of foreign military and foreign lines of communication, and you will help in determining areas of sea and land that may be later used as battlegrounds in times of war. The training for a Computer Image Analyst Specialist begins as with every Army job with Basic Combat Training.

After 9 weeks of boot camp, you will be instructed in individual advanced training that will last 21 weeks. During your advanced training you will work in simulated combat and battle situations, and also in the classroom. You will learn map and chart preparation, how to use computer systems, and the use and operations of satellite and aerial photographic systems. You will be part of the intelligence team and help compile overall training and intelligence support reports.
