1st BCT Raider Brigade Routs Enemy Insurgency
The soldiers of the coalition, in joint efforts with Iraqi National Army and National Police soldiers have had the forces of Al Qaeda on the run for some time now in the south of Baghdad. The insurgents do not any longer have a place of safe haven, so they are constantly on the move to try and avoid detection by coalition soldiers.
The joint forces operating in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad are working together, and they uncovered a number of weapons caches as well as several suspected Al Qaeda members during the week of April 20th.
Working at three different sites, the 2nd Iraqi Police Division soldiers discovered and captured two heavy machine guns, each with the ability to fire several hundred rounds a minute. They also captured a rocket propelled grenade launcher, and many grenades along with 7 sniper rifles.

Several suspected members of Al Qaeda were detained to be questioned, and the week of raids were considered a success. Joint patrols spearheaded by Iraqi Police officers have turned up a lot of weapons during patrols in the last 14 days.
“The Iraqi Security Forces have taken the lead in nearly every case,†said Major Dave Olson. Major Olson is spokesperson for the MNF- Baghdad, 4th Infantry Division, 1st BCT forces.
