Sons Of Iraq Induct Warij Residents

4th Brigade Combat Team Assists Citizen Security Group

There was reason for rejoicing for many of the residents of Warij last week. The Sons of Iraq moved to induct nearly 155 residents of the village as new members of the Sons of Iraq. In a few short months, the sons of Iraq have worked to raise both their visibility but the level of their involvement The sons of Iraq are working daily to conduct citizen patrols, to assist where they can at checkpoints, and to help show the enemy insurgents and Al Qaeda that Iraqi people are resilient, and that they cannot be bullied long term.

The new members of the Sons of Iraq began to serve at checkpoints immediately. They have been trained before being inducted, and were eager to start work helping out. In Warij the Sons of Iraq program is unique. It is the only place in Iraq where you can find both religious sects operating at the same checkpoints, in the same Sons of Iraq organization. The two different groups put behind their differences and work together to operate checkpoints. The spirit of cooperation is fantastic.

“This is a wonderful example of check and balance cooperation that we need to foster in Iraq,” stated Lieutenant Dan Henry. Lt. Henry is the executive officer of 3rd Infantry, 4th BCT, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 6th Squadron, Troop A.

Criminals in the past have threatened businesses in the Warij area, but now with the new level of security, partly from the Sons of Iraq it is a place where no insurgents are able to get a hold.
