Gas Turbine System Technician

Navy specialists who work on Gas Turbine engine systems are normally working on equipment used to generate power or energy. This type of equipment is used mostly to generate electrical power to operate other systems and to power the vessel or facility in which the Gas Turbine generating system is located at. You will work on various systems in the power and energy field, working to maintain and repair the propulsion system on fleet vessels, as well as working on gas turbine engines used to generate power.

Working as a member of the power and energy field you may be involved in key repairs to the power system on an aircraft carrier, or asked to repair a gas turbine engine while at sea. The training and skills that you receive will allow you to operate air dehydrators, pumps, turning gears, and engineering and control unit equipment. In addition you will be at times asked to participate in maintenance and operation of nuclear power generating equipment and nuclear propulsion systems. As a sailor in this field you will work to maintain steam generation equipment both connected to gas turbine equipment and separately, and you will cross train on a number of different systems and power generation configurations.
