Navy Aviation Machinist specialists work to maintain and repair some of the most advanced aircraft and equipment to be found anywhere in the world. They work on the total arsenal of Navy Air power aircraft, both fixed wing and rotary helicopter aircraft are among the equipment that a Navy Machinist Aviation Specialist works on. A machinist Aviation specialist is a very technical enlisted career, requiring detailed and accurate work on aircraft that are used by Navy pilots and aircrews in support of the Navy mission. Sailors use precision testing equipment and training to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment in the Navy fleet, finding and repairing problems in navigation, weapons, flight and avionics systems and sub systems. It is an advanced technology career that takes precision, training skill and intelligence to operate in. Sailors in this specialty work on a regular basis with million dollar machinery and equipment to make sure it is at peak readiness at all times and ready for the mission. Aircraft and avionics are the main thrust of this specialty, but at times a Machinist Aviation specialist will assist in jobs repairing surface vessels, weapons systems, and even occasionally repair jobs dealing with submarine equipment.
