Iraqi Doctors Given Training And Assistance By Coalition

One of the most pressing needs in the rebuilding of Iraq is the medical community. There are continuing efforts to rebuild facilities, but the presence of Coalition medical teams has led to the formation of different conferences and training clinics. This is an effort to help doctors that practice in Iraq to learn from US and Coalition medical professionals, and to learn the latest in techniques and medical practices. Military Doctors are working together with their Iraqi counterparts in a series of lectures and professional conferences.

The training is proving very valuable for the medical Iraqi community. Iraqi doctors are overall well trained but there are skills that are state of the art and dealing with disease and conditions that are more rare. These are diseases they can learn about and they have been able to pick up from their Coalition counterparts. The lectures also dealt with the fact that the situation during the reign of Saddam Hussein led to the medical community inside of Iraq to become greatly isolated from the outside medical world.

The overall consensus is that Iraq should establish medical schools that address issues faced by post graduate doctors practicing in Iraq. “The schools have to become established in Iraq, and they must deal with the issues we face every day
