Coalition Forces And Sons Of Iraq Escort Families Coming Home After previously fleeing their homes a number of Iraqi citizens have began to return to the Sayafiyah region. Nearly 120 Chalabi Tribe men are returning to their homes in the region to the southeast of Baghdad, after leaving nearly a year ago. They were driven out by Al-Qaeda terrorist extremists and have not been back to their homes since. As they began to return, members of the Sons of Iraq Volunteer group escorted the men. Coalition members from the 101st Airborne, 3rd BCT, 187th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company C, 1st Platoon also escorted citizens back into their village, which was previously abandoned. As they returned and reclaimed their homes, it was the beginning of a new period of security and peace for the entire region. Find the Military Career right for YOU ! Click here for more Information. The village of Chalabi is located about 5 kilometers to the west of the Tigris River, and more than 2000 people formerly populated it. It was a Shia tribe inside a mostly Sunni dominated area, and because of this it was a prime target of Al Qaeda, and other insurgents affiliated with the Sunni tribe. The village has turned into a ghost town during the interim period, but now is springing back into life. The villagers of Chalabis are taking important steps toward reclaiming and rebuilding their lives. The villagers and men from the Shia tribe that went into self imposed exile are returning to their homes, and working to explore the restoration of essential services. Services such as electricity, water and other services have yet to be restored.
