Children’s Hospital Close To Completion
The Iraqi population of Basra has been slowly returning to normal, and the residents of the region have been looking forward to their children’s hospital being back into circulation. The Basra Children’s hospital has been one of the two major projects that the Army Corps of Engineers, Gulf Region has been engaged in. The Army Engineers have been working for nearly a year on the project, with the hospital nearing completion.
Iraqi contractors that were retained by the Army Corps of Engineers are working to install new lighting and plumbing, and working on final plastering and construction. The primary mission of the hospital previously has been in children’s cancer treatment but it will be used to treat other childhood issue as well as regaining its position of cancer treatment for children.

The children’s hospital in Basra was formerly a modern facility and one that was a boon to the Iraqi Basra region, but with the fall of Saddam the facility fell into disrepair and was abandoned for some time. The project was identified by Coalition troops as a major element of rebuilding the entire Basra region.
As the Basra region returns to normal, the hospital being finished is a large positive for the entire region. The Army Corps of Engineers Gulf Region Office is pleased that the work will be completed by the summertime, and ready to be put into service.
