Coalition Passes Torch To Iraqi Police

Joint Operations Being Led Now By IP Forces

The operations and Police responsibilities in the region of Kamilayah is slowly being handed off to Iraqi police forces. The coalition has worked to train members of the National police in ongoing police operations, and the professionalism of the Iraqi National police has raised with the additional levels of training and instruction that they have received.

Iraqi National police forces recently took the lead in a series of combined patrols operating outward from the Rustamiyah Forward Operating base, and in each case the patrols were carried out in a professional and efficient manner. Soldiers from supporting units of the 4th Brigade Combat team, and the 10th Mountain Division, MND-B work with the Iraqi National police on an ongoing basis to keep their skills sharp and honed.

The most recent set of patrols has been to halt bad activities that are being performed by the Jaysh Al Mahdi, and other terrorist insurgents. A change that occurred recently was to enable the Iraqi police to focus on search and cordon activities in support of the missions.

“This was the first time going out on backup and the Iraqi National police did an excellent job,” said Captain John Coligado. Captain Coligado is the Executive Officer for the 2nd battalion, 4thy Brigade Combat Team.

“It is not a abnormal type of operation, but this is the first time that the mission was led by the Iraqi National Police.
