Displaced Families Given Support And Aids
Members of the Coalition 415th Civil Affairs, 4th BCT, 3rd Infantry, Company B worked to help hand out supplies and food to families that were displaced in the Iskandariyah region, located to the south of Baghdad about 30 miles. This was a distribution of 200 bags of supplies as part of a humanitarian aid effort. The recipients of the aid were families that had moved back into the area following the settling down of security. Most of the different 22 displaced families were from the Baghdad area, and Najaf and Hillah.
As they worked to hand out supplies the soldiers worked to interact with the families about their current situation and their future plans. Families shared that times were tough and that the men were all looking for jobs and methods of supporting their families. The supplies that were given out were about a weeks worth of food, water and other materials per family. In addition to water and food there were soap, small toys and candy for the children.

The displaced families were happy to receive the supplies and enthusiastic in talking with coalition soldiers. The families have resettled in an old abandoned school building in the Hateen Apartment complex because of the former violence and a lack of jobs for the men.
“The families are all committed to making it work, and they are eager to start their new lives in Iskandariyah,” said Captain Daniel Scheeringa, Team chief for Company B.
