One of the most historic and memorable of the battles in the Korean War was the Battle Of Incheon. The battle of Incheon was an invasion battle pitting United States Marines against the North Korean Forces in the battle, which began on September 15th, 1950, and lasted for 13 days. The United Nations Forces, which were being led by Army General Douglas MacArthur, were primarily made up by brave United States Marines.
The Battle was code named Operation Chromite, and it was decisive in that it ended the reign of victories that the North Koreans had began to be experienced by the invading NKPA, or North Korean Peoples Army. The North Korean Army was being bested by the U.S. Marines and pushed back during a counter attack that resulted in the recapture of Seoul, Korea. As the Marines advanced and gained territory, their advance was eventually stopped near the Yalu River.

The North Koreans were afraid to lose the entire Korean Peninsula, so they appealed to their Communist brethren, the Chinese. The Chinese immediately furnished over 150 thousand battle troops, which prevented the Marines from moving any further north. The flood of Chinese Troops into the area was so severe that it resulted in the loss of the Chosin Reservoir back to North Korea.
US Marines fought bravely in the Battle Of Incheon, and it is considered a decisive victory because the lines of battle with North Korea were pushed back sharply, and if not for the interruption and addition of Chinese troops may even have resulted in a total victory by South Korea. The Marines had endured a lot of force reductions and cut backs, but they took outdated World War II equipment and landing craft, and made do. Their brave conduct under fire and swift decisive action on behalf of United Nations mandate allowed much of what is now South Korea to pass back into the hands of democratically controlled South Korea.
Incheon was heavily defended, and the North Koreans did not expect an attack to come from the South at that point. The attack led to the avoidance of what would have otherwise been a brutal winter campaign. Marine advance guerrillas gathered intelligence, and information, which allowed the Battle of Incheon to succeed. While there was no more territory to the north captured in the course of the war, the Battle of Incheon is another example of Marine Corps Bravery under fire.
