First Iraqi Comedy On Stage Performed In Wasit Iraq Since 2003
A small milestone was achieved recently as the first theater comedy production was successfully staged in the Al Kut village in the Wasit Province since 2003.
Members of a popular Iraq television situation comedy “Mud House,” traveled to Al Kut to perform in a comedy play, the first that has been held since 2003. The play was called “People and People,” and conveyed Iraqi Life from a comedic view. It was staged to try and make the citizens of the region come and laugh, and to leave with a little optimism and hope as the play reveals by its actors.
The Municipality Hall in Al Kut holds 1500 people and it was filled to capacity, to see the play which was sponsored by the US State Department in cooperation with the Iraqi Police, and the 214th Fire Brigade of Coalition Soldiers. The Iraqi Police estimated that there were an additional 3,000 different people who were waiting excitedly outside the theater.

The very large turnout is seen as a desire among the population of Al Kut to return life to normal. “It was impossible not to laugh, it was a joyful and light mood and the play was very good. The language barrier was hard at first but the comedy troop was so good that even not speaking the language the fun was easy to interpret,” stated Colonel Peter Baker.
Colonel Baker is the Commanding Officer of the 214th Fire Brigade.
