3rd HCBT Leaves Region Secure And Safe

3rd Infantry Unit Ends 15 Month Deployment

The overall security in the area of Madain Qada have been consistently improved over the last 15 months. The violence in the region of Baghdad and communities around the region has also improved, and much of the security has been due to the diligence and efforts of the 3rd Infantry, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team.

“If you examine the last 15 months you will find that the 3rd HBCT has resulted in much of the positive security that the region has endured and benefited from,” said Army Colonel Wayne Grigsby.

Colonel Grigsby is the commanding officer for 3rd HBCT.

Violent Crime was out of control when the brigade first arrived in the Madain Qada, the soldiers were attacked up to five and six times a day. After fierce fighting the 3rd HBCT was able to detain more than 500 suspected criminals over the last several months, and their efforts resulted in 160 enemy extremists being killed.

Extremist activity because of these actions dropped considerably. Colonel Grigsby credits the actions of his soldiers for the change.

The community and area were secured by the HBCT brigade and the extremists were forced to leave, and their movements into the region were interrupted and prevented in the most part by the actions of the 3rd HBCT.
