3rd Infantry Aids Iraqi Soldier Artificial Limb

Special Forces Iraqi Troop Receive New Leg

On a midday patrol with coalition forces on January 10th, 2008, everything changed for one Special Forces Iraqi Army Platoon leaders. As they were on joint patrol, an IED explosive device on a footbridge in the Chaka Four region struck the Iraqi Army soldier.

Iraqi Army First Lieutenant Mohy Ali lost his entire right root and was injured quite badly in addition to the lost of his foot and shin. He suffered trauma to his right wrist and a number of other injuries from the blast.

About 3 months later soldiers from 4th BCT, 3rd Infantry have been working together to help the 42 year old soldier get his life back on track toward normalcy. With the help from coalition soldiers, lieutenant Ali is getting help with his leg and his overall health issues.

Captain Jacob Turnquist is a 4th BCT surgeon, and he helped find a clinic in Baghdad near the coalition support hospital that works with Iraqis that need artificial limbs. The IA surgeon general clinic is run by Iraqis with help from America Civil Affairs teams.

After taking all of the information, the Lieutenant is hopeful. He has been measured and fitted, and now just awaits the construction of his artificial foot. The clinic has promised Lieutenant Ali his new foot on his next visit.
