Service to mariners and boaters in need is one of the main responsibilities that the United States Coast Guard Perform. While search and rescue is the primary responsibility for the Coast Guard, it is not the only one. They have port security, port inspection, aids to navigation, as well as other duties. But when they do respond it is often with a need to do electrical, physical or other types of damage repair. The job of damage control specialist is one of the most challenging in the Coast Guard Ratings systems. The Coast Guard Damage Control man is the rating that is often confronted with a variety of equipment and systems that are damaged and need to be repaired. The Coast Guard provides emergency assistance with engine or equipment repairs to help the citizen be able to reach safety. The Coast Guard is the primary search and rescue service for the United States especially dealing with near or over water in the United States. The mission of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard reserves is to provide swift search and rescue when needed but also to engage and perform their other missions.
