Coalition Shifts Operations To Iraq Police

IA Police Assume Wasit Province Responsibilities

Iraqi Police have worked hard to improve the Wasit Province security over the last few months, to the point that they have been able to take over operations from the Coalition. Iraqi police have become much more professional over the last several months, earning the respect of the local population to earning the respect of the coalition.

The effectiveness of the Iraqi force has been a slow daily achievement, and their overall ability has grown day by day. Much of the improvement has been due to the hard work of the soldiers based under Major General Hannin Al Ameer, the director of police. “He is a hard worker and a very dedicated leader, he has take a large force and made long term and intermediate improvements without waiting around,” said Colonel Peter Baker.

Colonel Baker is the Commander of the 214th Fire Brigade. One point of significance was the Shia uprising that occurring in Late March when 134 Iraqi policemen were fired.

It was due to a variety of circumstances, some of them were not doing the job, others were not coming to work. During the firing the General had a chance to assess his forces and it was a huge positive shakeup.

The new leadership of the different units is more focused, and disciplined. “They take their duties very seriously,” said Colonel Baker.
