The purpose of the Reserve Officer Training Program for the Marine Corps is to take people who are deemed to make good candidates and train, teach and educate them to become highly qualified young men and women ready to be commissioned officers in the Marine Corps. Marine ROTC is a program that is found at many different universities and college all around the United States. It is a program for willing candidates to participate in, and receive training from the United States Marine Corps. Upon successful Graduation, a Marine ROTC midshipman is elected to the position of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, and serves out a term of enlistment in either the Active Marine Corps or as a Reserve Marine Corps Officer.
One of the Advantages of the Marine Corps is that they also award Scholarships to candidates who qualify and are selected by the scholarship boards. A ROTC midshipman who is awarded a scholarship attends college as a student and enrolled in the inactive ready reserve while in school, and doesn’t receive any regular pay or allowances while attending college, but their costs for room, board, books and tuition are completely covered if a scholarship student. The Marines offer scholarships twice a year by selection board, and if selected then a student has the opportunity to have their college education paid for.

The Marine Scholarship Award is a scholarship that is highly prized and competed for where the recipients receive fees, full tuition and books, and other financial benefits from the scholarship. To be eligible for a Marine ROTC scholarship you have to be between 17 and 23 years of age, and a high school graduate. You have to be a United States citizen, and be physically qualified by Marine Corps Standards. Finally you have to be less than 26 years of age when you graduate, this can be extended by prior military service but not for any longer than three years.
