The World War I was also known as the Great War, the US Army has a proud history of service during the War. It was a war that started small, an assassination touched off a series of alliances by different groups of nations. In 1914 the Archduke of Austro-Hungary, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by an assassins bullet, by a Bosnian Serb citizen. After the Archduke was killed, Austria Hungary retaliated against Serbia, and this action began a series of alliances and a series of war declaration, soon much of Europe fell into open state of warfare.
Two major powers fought, the Entente Powers, which was Russia, Britain, France, and ultimately the United States fought against Central Powers, Germany, Bulgaria, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The United States Entered the war in 1917, about a year before the war ended in 1918. Much of the fighting was conducted in trench warfare, with both sides in any battle being in trenches that were dug in long lines deep into the ground.

The US Army was commanded in World War II by General John J. Pershing, who led the American Expeditionary Forces. The United States Army fought in several battles including the Battle of the Chateau Thierry on July 18th of 1918. American Soldiers arrived on scene in France between Chateau- Thierry and Fontenoy, and worked to attack and capture a 40 km long battlefront. The Army fought hard in the regions around Soissons, and they took the German forces they were fighting against by surprise. The US Army rushed over the top of the trenches, and began their assault at 445am in the morning. They created a rolling barrage and was a synchronized attack mounted with great precision. They were responsible for a number of victories on that day.
The Meuse Argonne Offensive was another US Army battle, also referred to as the Battle of Argonne Forest, and it was the ultimate final World War II offensive. It was fought by brave U.S. Army Forces near the town of Verdun, in September 1918 to November 1918. There were nine divisions of the 1st US Army commanded by General John Pershing. More than One Million brave US Troops, with a majority of them U.S. Army personnel, took place in the battle of Meuse Argone. It was also commanded by then-Colonel George Marshall.
