Sadr City Receives Joint Forces Assist

IA And Coalition Work To Aid Citizens

The local leadership in the Sadr City area has been working hard to resume the government and infrastructure that used to be present in the area. With the fall of Saddam Hussein, the battle for the area has led to a lot of the former services available in the area to fall into disuse. Now that the security situation has slowly come around, the local government is trying hard to reestablish itself in the area.

The issuing of humanitarian aid has done a lot to help win back the confidence of the local citizens. Many of the farms have fallen into disrepair, and until the farms and local economy are able to get back into shape, the citizens welcome help with supplies and food with open arms.

The local government has worked with the Coalition to open a new Iraqi Assistance Center at the Joint Thawra Security station. Officials from the Gol and Sadr City area work to supply both water and food and other necessities to the local citizens of Sadr City.

Much of the new effort has come from the Iraqi Army. Area Sadr City residents can come and use the new center to apply for assistance, and to help resolve any problems that they are encountering in getting their farms and businesses back into running order.

The center has helped pass out nearly 46 thousand meals, and over 114 thousand liters of water have been distributed. As the supplies make their way into the hands of the citizens, they begin to realize that the local government is there to support and help them.
