Coalition And Iraqi Patrols Find Weapons

Large Amount Of Explosives Found Near Maderiyah

The forces of both Iraqi Army troops and Coalition forces have a series of routine patrols that they engage in on a daily basis near Maderiyah. One of these patrols found a series of weapons caches, nearly six large stashes of weapons were discovered on May 13th.

Included in these weapons caches were over 300 anti personnel grenades, and this was one of the larger discoveries of weapons in the past several weeks.

The first cache had weapons that were serviceable, and some of them were brand new still in their plastic manufactured containers. Several of the weapons found in the different Weapons cashes appeared to have Iranian markings of manufacture.

“Most of the different ammunition that we discovered was serviceable, and able to be used, there was a lot of detonation cord wrapped around each of the ammo dumps that we found, and we believe they would have blown it up had they been given advance warning,” said Captain Richard Aaron.

Captain Aaron is the Commander of 3rd Infantry, 2nd BCT, and 9th Field Artillery, 1st Battalion, and Company B.

The different weapons supplied found were discovered based on some intelligence tips provided by local residents. Members of the Iraqi Army and Battery B Coalition Soldiers worked together to gather up the munitions, and gave them over to a coalition EOD ordinance disposal team for disposal.
