MNF Forces Aid Efforts In Independence

Coalition Supports Iraqi Sovereignty Goals

The ultimate goal of the Iraqi government is that it wants to be able to stand on its own without any support from the United States. According to Army General David H. Petraeus, the Multinational Force Iraq Commander, that is what their ultimate goal and aim is.

General Petraeus spoke to members of the House Armed Services committee last week and related how things are going in Iraq at the current time.

The members of the Senior Iraq Government are putting a large amount of pressure on them and on their people to try and get prepared for eventual sovereignty, said General Petraeus. The decision by Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki to send troops from Iraq to Basra and other parts to stop violence by illegal militias show how hard they are working to try and get things right, said Petraeus.

The Forces of the United States are working to support and assist the Iraqi Government, and to work to provide leadership and training for their soldiers and their forces as they grow into the different government roles they must serve. Teaching the Iraqi forces is something that must be done and is being done as swiftly as is possible, under the circumstances.
