Support Given For Iraqi Security Efforts
There is additional evidence that is coming out showing that the Iranians are supplying weapons to groups of insurgents in Iraq, and the Iraqi security forces are taking steps to bring this out into the open. The success and the professionalism of the Iraqi forces engaged in security operations has helped illustrate this point.
“The last several months we have shown evidence on four different occasions, evidence of Iranian weapons, and these Iranian weapons continue to find their way into the hands of transgressors and criminals in Iraq,†said Army Major General Kevin Bergner.
Major General Bergner is a senior U.S. Military official speaking officially on the record about the Iranian source of weapons.
There is increasing evidence that there are Iraqi militants and insurgents that are being trained in neighboring Iran and getting the benefit of Iranian Qud illegal money and training. The Iranian Qud is a force that is a known branch of the Iranian Revolutionary guard.
“Using Iranian Qud forces is a violation of international law, and it impairs the sovereignty of Iraq and its people,†said General Bergner.

The United States is working with Iraqi Forces to target these Iranian supplied insurgents, and their efforts have been yielding successes for the most part, but opposition from the insurgents and their Iranian supporters has been intense.
“We have a number of military operations aimed at stopping this type of insurgent support,†said General Bergner.
