Topographic Navy Analyst Careers

The job of Navy Topographical Analyst is a lot like the civilian career of land surveyor who works for a state or municipal survey department. You will work with different charts, maps, and drawings of land and deal with a lot of different kinds of images. You will be tasked to advise and provide information to Navy and military commanders, regarding different geographical and environmental features that would impact the Navy mission at hand. The position of Navy topographical Analyst uses different types of data, from digital photographic images, Geospatial information, data downloaded from satellites, and remote and computer generated topographical images. You will work to take this information and produce workable maps on which to plot troop, ship and vessel movement, and the actions of any foreign or enemy troop activity. One of your main responsibilities will be to act as a data collector, to take all the different types of data that comes into a command center or local operations center, and to sort it all out, and make sense of it. You will work closely with Senior Command personnel to analyze geographic and terrain type of information, to make real time maps and charts that are accurate for your commanders to be able to visualize military operations and battlefield troop movements. As a Navy Topographical Analyst specialist you may have to build scale models of a land and water area to illustrate geographical features such as hills, lakes valleys, islands, or to scribe features on different surfaces. You will work with digital formats, to compile geographic information and maps, and to deal with overlays and special information to assist battlefield operations in real time. You will attend specialized training for 18 weeks where you will receive training with different types of topographical and satellite equipment. During your training you will receive training in the classroom and in simulated field conditions, including photo aerial interpretation, drafting and surveying techniques. You will work with different formats of aerial interpretation, photo and architectural drawing formats. You will be an excellent candidate for this position if you can visualize spatial relationships, or if you are good at advanced mathematics, maps and drafting type maps.
