NYC Honors Military Veterans on Veteran’s Day

NYC Honors Military Veterans on Veteran’s Day Madison Square Park, which lies in Manhattan, was full of Veterans over the Veteran’s Day weekend, all of whom took part in the weekend’s festivities. This is the 88th year for the Veteran’s Day memorials, which honor the veterans that have given their lives in battle, as well as military veterans that are still alive today after defending out country so bravely.

In keeping with the tradition, there was a 21 gun salute in the park, as well as a ceremonial wreath laying, as well as the US military band playing “Taps”. This is often seen as a somber, yet important, act that the city will perform yearly for the military veterans. The veterans that were present in the city’s festivities hailed as far back as from World War II, all took place in the annual parade as well, which began on the famed Fifth Avenue. Although the ceremonies are there to honor the veterans, there are many veterans that have also made the comment that they feel as though they have been neglected from the US military since they have returned home from fighting in combat. Many others also feel this way, which is why they want to be present and show their support for their fellow Veteran’s on Veteran’s Day. Next year’s Veteran’s Day festivities are also expected to take place, keeping in tradition of the annual event.
